Description
Pp. 170-184, "Les Juifs: Antisémitisme et conjoncture", describe and comment on the films produced in France between 1936-44 depicting Jewish characters. States that the French Jews are presented as strangers, members of a homogeneous, non-assimilated community, and that they are condemned for not assimilating. The characters are often connected with matters of finance and usury. Asserts that after 1940 French filmmakers did not change this image; they did not adopt Vichy racial policy and films propagating racial hatred did not appear during this period.
